Agricultural Safety Institute Workshops

Tractor Safety - Train-the-Trainer: Course 201
Offered in English and Spanish
Tractors are used in all types of agricultural operations. They are also involved in many of the injuries and fatalities. This course provides the following:
  • Up-to-date safety information on correct usage of tractors
  • Meet Cal/OSHA requirements for information posting, tractor usage and training
  • Train-the-Trainer format prepares participants to share the information with others

Forklift Safety - Train-the-Trainer: Course 202
Offered in English and Spanish
Forklifts are involved in thousands of injuries and tens of fatalities each year. Forklift injuries and fatalities can be reduced through correct usage. This course covers:
  • Up-to-date safety information on correct usage of forklifts
  • Meet Cal/OSHA requirements for information posting, forklift usage and training
  • Train-the-Trainer format prepares participants to share the information with others

ATV Safety - Train-the-Trainer: Course 203
ATVs are useful to transport people and materials all over the farm. Unfortunately they are also involved in many injuries and fatalities on the farm. This course covers:
  • Up-to-date safety information on correct usage of ATV
  • Meet Cal/OSHA requirements for usage and training
  • Train-the-Trainer format prepares participants to share the information with others

PPE Personal Protective Equipment Safety: Course 204
  • Correct selection, usage, and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Meet Cal/OSHA requirements for usage and training

Heat Stress Safety: Course 205
  • Up-to-date health information on heat stress in agricultural workers
  • Best practices to minimize the risk of heat illness in chemical applicators, field workers, and equipment operators
  • First-Aid for heat illness

Incident Investigation: Course 206
  • How to conduct an effective incident investigation
  • Using the information gathered in an incident investigation to improve your safety program

Shop & Tool Safety: Course 207
  • Up-to-date safety information on correct usage of hand and power tools.
  • Shop procedures to minimize injuries

Lockout-Tagout for Agriculture: Course 208
  • Lockout-Tagout procedures for agricultural equipment and facilities
  • Meet Cal/OSHA requirements for procedures and training

Confined Space for Agriculture: Course 209
  • Understand confined space hazards and entrance procedures in agriculture
  • Develop a confined space program
  • Meet Cal/OSHA requirements for entering a confined space

Agricultural Machinery Safety: Course 210
Farm equipment, implements and stationary machinery, represent a significant source of injuries on the farm. Injuries can be reduced by understanding machine hazards and applying basic safety principles.
  • Recognize and understand common machine mechanisms and their hazards
  • Understand machine guarding techniques and how to make sure guards are adequate
  • Apply lockout/tagout/blockout procedures to agricultural machinery


AgSafe Certification Workshops

Laws and Regulations: Course 101
This course will provide you with an overview of the current regulations that affect workplace safety in California agriculture.
The course will:
  • Review the key California agricultural safety regulations
  • Help you identify the regulations that are relevant to your operation
  • Show you how to access the regulations online

Developing and Maintaining an Effective IIPP: Course 102
Your Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) is the backbone of your company's safety program. The purpose of this course is to provide you with:
  • An understanding of the eight essential elements of an IIPP
  • General guidelines for developing, improving, implementing, and maintaining your IIPP
  • Guidance for developing an effective safety program or making sure that your current IIPP works for your operation
  • The information you need to implement your IIPP and improve safety at your workplace
Students are encouraged to take this course after they have had time to put the information in the other courses to work within their company and to bring a copy of their company's IIPP.

Hazard Identification and Control: Course 103
In order to improve the safety of your operation, you must identify workplace hazards and learn how to eliminate or control these hazards in order to avoid tragic and costly injuries. This course will provide you guidelines for:

  • Identifying and evaluating workplace hazards
  • Investigating safety incidents at the workplace
  • Correcting unsafe and unhealthy work conditions
  • Enforcing safety in the workplace

Effective Safety Training: Course 104
A safe workplace depends largely on training your employees how to work safely. This course offers you:
  • An understanding of the need for and value of safety training
  • Techniques for overcoming the potential barriers to effective training
  • Ways to ensure that the training you provide is effective.
  • The tools for identifying the topics you need to include in your safety training sessions
Safety Certification Roundtable: Course 105
The purpose of this class is to hold a roundtable discussion on how the information presented in the AgSafe certification training classes was used or could be used to enhance your company's safety program. Students are encouraged to take this course after they have had time to put the information in the other courses to work within their company and to bring a copy of their company's IIPP.
